Papaya smoothie

I grew up eating papaya and drinking papaya smoothies when I was in Ethiopia. When I moved here though, I never saw papayas anywhere so I assumed America must not have any. It wasn’t until about a year or two ago that I discovered that papayas were available in America – I just never paid enough attention in the fruit aisle at Cub Foods. I might be the only one who found them though, because every time I buy one the cashiers ask me what it is.

Lately I have been eating papaya a lot, because it has been helping me with my heartburn. You know when you’re pregnant and everything you eat gives you heartburn? Now think of eating something that actually helps you get rid of your heartburn. It’s wonderful!

Papaya also has many health benefits besides relieving heartburn. Here are some good reasons to eat papaya.

I must admit that if you’ve never had papaya before, it has a strange taste that you will have to get used to. I don’t know how to describe it, you will just have to try it for yourself and see. When I had my husband try it for the first time, he thought it was really strange, but eventually he got used to it and actually enjoys eating a papaya now.

If you really don’t like that “strange” taste, turning it into a smoothie by adding other fruits and juices is amazing. Here is how I make papaya smoothies using the Magic Bullet:
